A collision in the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel resulted in a taxi spinning across multiple lanes and five people sustaining injuries.
The incident occurred on 17 Nov at approximately 8.35pm, along the CTE towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE), just after the Cairnhill Road Exit.
Dashcam footage shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group shows a red taxi travelling steadily in its lane when another red car suddenly swerved across two lanes and rear-ended the taxi at high speed.
The collision scattered metal debris and sent the taxi spinning across the lanes of the CTE.
Unable to regain control, the red car veered into the road shoulder and crashed into the tunnel wall.
As the taxi spun backwards across the expressway, it struck the opposite tunnel wall before coming to a stop.
Meanwhile, the red car continued moving and collided with the tunnel wall a second time.
Speaking to MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they were alerted to the accident at around 8.35pm. A 31-year-old female and a 2-year-old male were conveyed conscious to the hospital.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed to MS News that two injured individuals were taken to hospitals — one to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and another to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Three others were assessed for minor injuries at the scene but declined to be transported to a hospital.
A 27-year-old male car driver is assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
The accident footage left netizens stunned, with some speculating that the red car’s driver might have been intoxicated.
Others, however, suggested a medical issue could be to blame.
One commenter proposed that the driver may have suffered a heart attack or stroke, as they failed to slow down even after two collisions.
