As a cyclist, it is vital to exercise caution when travelling on the road.
Cutting across lanes without checking carefully will always carry a certain level of danger, sometimes leading to road accidents.
This was the case recently when a cyclist attempted to cut in front of a vehicle to cross over into another lane in Clementi.
A vehicle ended up colliding with him, flinging him to the side of the street.
A netizen posted footage of the incident to the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, stating that it occurred on 8 Apr at 10.09am in Clementi.
The video starts with the cyclist cutting across the front of the vehicle recording the incident from the left lane.
He then attempts to enter a lane with traffic approaching from the opposite direction via the pedestrian crossing.
While doing so, a white car slams into him and brakes abruptly.
The force of the impact appears to fling the cyclist to the side of the road, at which point the video ends.
At the moment, whether the cyclist sustained any injuries from the collision remains unconfirmed.
MS News has reached out to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for more information on the matter.
The footage has since gone viral on Facebook with over 129,000 views and 1,300 comments.
Many accused the cyclist of not having any respect for traffic rules and safety.
After all, he could have avoided getting into such an accident had he been more careful on the road.
There were also those who pointed out that the traffic light for vehicles on the other side had been green at that moment in time.
Despite this, the cyclist chose to cut into the pedestrian crossing, therefore increasing the likelihood of a collision occurring.
The severity of the accident in the video goes to show how a moment of carelessness can be potentially disastrous for motorists.
Hopefully, this video will serve as a reminder for all cyclists to exercise caution and refrain from recklessly cutting across different lanes.
