At an entrance of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), a cyclist suddenly veered to the right to avoid entering the expressway, narrowly missing an oncoming vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday (15 Nov) at around 5.45 pm on Bedok North Road, as the cyclist was riding in the leftmost lane towards the PIE entrance.
Footage of the near-miss, captured on the dashboard camera of the vehicle behind the cyclist, was shared on the ROADS.sg Facebook page, drawing significant attention and leaving netizens divided on who was at fault.

In the clip, the vehicle is seen travelling behind the cyclist in the same lane.
Unexpectedly, the cyclist abruptly swerved right without looking out for traffic, seemingly in an attempt to avoid riding into the PIE.
This act forced the vehicle, which was about three metres behind the bicycle, to veer to the second lane.

Afterwards, the rider quickly turned back into the leftmost lane.
Many netizens criticised the cyclist for making an abrupt and unanticipated move, with one netizen pointing out that, should an accident happen, the driver would be deemed responsible.

One user warned drivers to be careful around e-bikers, even referring to them as “idiots”.

Meanwhile, others noted that the slip road where the incident occurred is particularly dangerous and advised drivers to slow down when encountering cyclists.
In response, a netizen highlighted that cyclists cannot enter expressways. Thus, the rider in the video would have to turn to the right at some point.

Another netizen opined that the driver should already have a “defensive mindset” upon seeing the cyclist, as they are likely going “to be doing something stupid”.
