Daughter touch genitals
A 40-year-old man in Singapore has been found guilty following a trial concerning an incident where he exposed his genitals to his young daughter and permitted her to touch them, asserting that his actions were for “educational” purposes.
The conviction, handed down on Thursday (24 April), was for enabling a child to participate in an obscene act.
He also faced two additional charges — one for criminal intimidation and another for voluntarily causing hurt, according to CNA.
In 2016, the man’s daughter, then aged five to six, expressed curiosity about the differences between the sexes.
Court documents revealed that the man noticed her looking at him and asked if she was still curious.
She nodded in agreement.
In an attempt to “educate” her, he exposed himself and invited her to touch his genitals.
During the trial, the man and his wife claimed it was she who had asked him to expose himself.
However, court documents revealed that the man admitted his wife only mentioned the matter after the incident, allegedly warning him not to repeat the act.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Yohanes Ng argued that the couple lacked credibility due to these inconsistencies.
He added that both were aware their actions were wrong and were now presenting a “self-serving version” of events to absolve themselves.
DPP Ng emphasised that parental consent does not justify such an indecent act.
He warned that accepting such a rationale would give parents the freedom to “allow others to sexually abuse their children”.
District Judge Carol Ling condemned the man’s justification, stating that exposing oneself to a young child is inherently indecent, regardless of the child’s curiosity.
The man’s sentencing has been adjourned to 7 May.
