While many of us were taken aback by the news, we couldn’t help but wonder which store would in time take over the iconic departmental store.

Well, turns out we needn’t wait long for the answer.

According to The Straits Times, a spokesperson from Frasers Singapore – the owners of Centrepoint – revealed that very same day that Decathlon will take over as the mall’s anchor tenant.

Decathlon will be the new anchor tenant at The Centrepoint

The spokesperson, however, did not mention how much of Metro’s existing space the new Decathlon outlet would occupy.

But seeing as their outlets are generally huge, we won’t be surprised if the one at The Centrepoint occupies all six floors that Metro will be leaving empty.

Popular for its range of affordable sporting goods, the huge sports store will become the new go-to outlet for families shopping in the area.

The mega-store will be Decathlon’s first outlet in the premier shopping district along Orchard Road.

Opening by the first half of next year, there’s bound to be a lot of cool things in store.

Exciting activities for a fun shopping experience

Some of the cool features that the upcoming store might have make us certain that the outlet will be pretty big.

Virtual simulations and augmented reality elements will allow customers to try out products in realistic settings.

We’re imagining trying out hiking boots on rough terrains or winter coats in cold conditions, though we don’t know just how high-tech the gadgets will be.

Fitness enthusiasts can also look forward to activities like yoga and zumba classes to get their regular dose of adrenaline.

Every once in a while, experts will conduct talks, demos and tryouts in the mall for those keen on picking up new skills and knowledge.

Bringing new life to a historic mall

With a host of exciting activities and features in line for its opening, Decathlon will certainly invite a lot of buzz to The Centrepoint.

The sports store’s regular stream of visitors may perhaps make the mall lively again, and restore its former glory.

We’re sad to see Metro go, but Decathlon’s arrival could well be the change that The Centrepoint needs.
