As of Thursday (20 Feb), Diamond Princess – the cruise ship moored off the Japanese city of Yokohama – has reported more than 620 passengers infected by Covid-19.
Sadly, 2 elderly passengers who tested positive for the coronavirus had reportedly passed away, according to numerous news outlets.
Both apparently had underlying medical conditions.
According to The Guardian, the 2 elderly passengers who died were both Japanese citizens.
The first was an 87-year-old man who was taken off the ship last Tuesday (11 Feb).
The other was a 84-year-old woman. She was hospitalised a day later, on 12 Feb.
Both elderly patients had pre-existing medical conditions.
At the time of writing, 621 passengers aboard Diamond Princess cruise ship have tested positive for Covid-19 — roughly a fifth of the 3,700 people on board initially.
Following a 2-week quarantine, hundreds of passengers who tested negative for Covid-19 have begun disembarking from the cruise ship.
