Woman in M’sia runs ‘school bus’ for dogs after finding pet daycare costs unreasonable

Adorable ‘school bus’ for dogs in Malaysia goes viral

We’re used to seeing school buses for children, but what about one for dogs?

In Malaysia, an innovative “school bus” service for pet pooches has captured hearts and taken the internet by storm.

This unique service went viral after someone spotted the custom van picking up furry passengers in a residential area and shared the adorable scene on Instagram, racking up over 160,000 views.

Launched in 2022 by Ms Amanda, a former news anchor, the service was inspired by her own struggles to find suitable daycare for her rescue dog.

She told SAYS that many pet daycare centres keep dogs in cages and even charge extra for walks.

Finding this unfair, she decided to create a daycare focused on fun, freedom, and safety for dogs.

For just RM38 to RM45 (S$11 to S$13) per day, Ms Amanda’s service takes dogs on exciting adventures and exercise outings, all aboard a specially equipped van designed to look like a school bus.

Van equipped with special seatbelts for dogs

Each morning, the doggy school bus begins its rounds, picking up excited pups from their homes — just like a school bus for children.

The van is specially designed with dog-friendly seatbelts, allowing the canines to move around safely while enjoying the ride.

After pick-ups, the paw-sengers are chauffeured to a nearby dog park for exercise and playtime, followed by a visit to a training centre for more games and activities.

At the end of their fun-filled day, the dogs are returned to their homes aboard their dedicated “school bus”.

Runs service 3 times a week

Ms Amanda currently operates the doggy school bus three times a week in Petaling Jaya and Hartamas.

Each session includes around 10 dogs, giving them the opportunity to socialise and bond with their furry peers.

While she finds her work deeply rewarding, Ms Amanda acknowledges there are occasional challenges.

For example, the dogs sometimes defecate in the van, so owners are reminded to ensure their pets have emptied their bowels before boarding.

Despite the service’s growing popularity and success, Ms Amanda has no plans to expand to other locations for now.
