In an unfortunate twist of fate, a car driver who stopped to help during a road collision on Seletar Expressway was tragically killed early Sunday morning (28 July).
The incident, which involved two cars and a motorcycle, unfolded around 2am on the SLE near the Lentor Avenue exit, leading up to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).
A video of the accident’s aftermath was posted on the Singapore roads accident.com新加坡公路意外网页 Facebook group on the same day.
The video shows at least four police cars, an ambulance, and three traffic police motorcycles at the scene.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the sequence of events began when a motorcycle collided with the right rear door of a private-hire car driven by a 43-year-old man with the surname Zhang.
Mr Zhang, who was returning home to Yishun after his work shift, recounted the initial accident to the Chinese paper, noting that the motorcyclist apparently lost control while attempting to change lanes, leading to the collision.
The collision sends the rider falling off his bike.
Mr Zhang parked his car on the shoulder of the road and alighted to help the motorcyclist.
In an act of goodwill, another male driver who witnessed the scene stopped his car in front of Mr Zhang’s car and alighted from his vehicle to offer his assistance.
Mr Zhang and another motorcyclist were trying to move the injured rider to safety when two to three minutes later, a loud noise alerted him to another crash.
He saw that the other car driver, who had also alighted his car to help the injured motorcyclist, had been hit by a passing black car and fell onto the rightmost lane.
Mr Zhang said he didn’t know why the man ran into the road when his car had been parked right in front of Mr Zhang’s car.
The accident caused several lanes to be closed. Footage showed at least four police cars were at the scene.
Speaking to MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to the accident at around 2am.
A SCDF paramedic pronounced the 35-year-old male car driver dead at the scene.
The Singapore Police Force said that the other injured individual, a 31-year-old male motorcyclist, was conveyed conscious to the hospital and a 32-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
