The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has seized a large amount of drugs during a raid in Tengah,
In a news release on Monday (11 Nov), CNB said the haul is estimated to be worth S$1.4 million.
Last Thursday (7 Nov) evening, CNB officers raided a residential unit in a block in the vicinity of Plantation Crescent.
In the flat, they arrested a 44-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman.
CNB also arrested a 32-year-old man at the void deck.
All three suspects are Singaporeans.
On the 32-year-old man, about 1,027g of cannabis and 513g of ‘Ice’ were found.
A bigger haul was to be found inside the unit, with a search uncovering about:
A total of S$9,250 in cash was also recovered.
Additionally, a car driven by the 44-year-old man was inspected in which more drugs were found:
CNB said it’s an offence under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 to traffic, offer to traffic or do/offer to do any preparatory act for the purpose of trafficking a controlled drug.
This applies whether the person is doing so on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore.
Offenders may face the death penalty when convicted of trafficking:
In this case, the amount of heroin, cannabis, and ‘Ice’ seized could feed the addiction of about 6,200 drug abusers for a week, CNB said.
If this large haul of drugs had flowed into the streets, the lives of thousands of individuals would’ve been affected, said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, Director of CNB’s Intelligence Division.
Warning of “far-reaching” harm and misery inflicted by drugs, he said:
Drugs do not just affect an individual, it also destroys the lives of their families and loved ones.
Thus, CNB will continue to hunt down drug traffickers and “neutralise” them to stem the tide of drugs, he added.
