An elderly woman in Thailand narrowly survived after being constricted by a 4m reticulated python for two hours before rescuers arrived.
On Tuesday (17 Sept) night, officers from Phra Samut Chedi Police Station and Poh Teck Tung Foundation rescuers rushed to a five-room rental property after receiving reports of an elderly woman being attacked by a python inside her room.
After breaking into the fourth room, they discovered a 4m-long reticulated python coiled around the woman, the Nation Thailand reported.
She was sitting in the cramped space, surrounded by shelves and kitchen implements.
Rescuers used special equipment to carefully free the woman from the snake, which weighed approximately 20kg — a process that took more than 30 minutes. The python eventually fled into the reeds behind the building.
The woman was given first aid at the scene before she was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The victim, identified as 64-year-old Arom, sustained several bites on her right thigh and was visibly exhausted.
She told reporters that she had been living alone since her husband’s passing in November 2023.
Arom recounted that the python attacked her while she was washing utensils at around 8.30pm.
The snake bit her, coiled around her, and pulled her to the ground. She struggled for more than two hours, desperately trying to free herself while calling for help.
Nearby residents finally heard her cries and alerted the police.
Pol Sgt Major Anuson Wongmalee, chief of the prevention and suppression division at Phra Samut Chedi Police Station, said officers had to break down the door after getting no response to their knocking.
Arom, still shaken, said: “I have never experienced anything like this in my life.”
