On 6 Jan, a Facebook post depicting a recruit’s sibei sian face went viral.
Today (11 Jan), Basic Military Training Center (BMTC) posted a contrasting photo with a group of girls joining the Volunteer Corps.
In the photo, the girls on the left hand side seemed to be more excited about enlistment as compared to the guys, who appeared to be in dismay with their heads hanging downwards.
One particular girl dressed in a black polo shirt and jeans stood out — she seemed to be especially ecstatic and beamed at the camera, as though Basic Military Training (BMT) will be the best period of her life.
One can’t help but wonder if this was a mockery of the recruit with the #sibeisian face.
Hawk-eyed netizens took note of this unusual moment and started to speculate on why the girls appeared to be happier than the guys.
This guy seems to think that the freedom of choice makes enlisting a more enjoyable experience for the girls.
Maybe this netizen has hit the nail on the head. The girls are paid 4x the amount for serving in SAF volunteer corps.
This commenter holds the same view, words dripping with sarcasm.
One netizen thinks that looks are all that matter and that the girls appear to be happier just because they can keep their hair.
Others wondered if their smiles would soon fade.
The rest have expressed disbelief at the number of girls enlisting.
Well, if SAF thinks that this photo showing how enthu the girls enlisting for BMT are would erase everyone’s memories about the #sibeisianrecruit, they are wrong.
The Internet never forgets.
So, here’s another photo of our hero expressing his inner thoughts about enlisting.
