Just barely into the year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) decides to increase prices of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP).
Much to the short-lived happiness of those who rejoiced at the decrease in ERP prices last December.
The LTA has considered traffic conditions before coming up with the revised rates, which will be implemented on 1 Feb.
Thus, these means that the places where rates have increased might heavier flow of traffic.
All three gantries pictured above will experience an increase in ERP rates.
The rates are as follows:
From 8.30am to 9.00am ERP rates will increase by a dollar from $2.00 to $3.00.
In addition, from 9.00am to 9.30am, the rate is set to increase from $1.00 to $2.00.
According to the Ministry of Transport, pre-peak hours are from 7am-8am while peak hours are from 8am-9am.
Thus, LTA is sending a clear message that from 8.30am to 9.00am (peak hour) and 9.30 to 9.30 (post-peak hour), there are too many cars going past the 3 gantries along AYE situated after Jurong Town Hall.
Perhaps from 8.30 to 9.00, they planning to reducing the number of cars driving to work, rather than those cars fetching children.
LTA implied parents ferry their children to school between 7.00am to 8.00am, by cutting ERP rates for the school holidays during these times last year.
Does that mean that LTA can earn an extra $3 from each car traveling through the 3 AYE gantries?
Similarly, from the revised rates we can deduce that there are just too many cars at Adam and Mount Pleasant road along the PIE.
We can imagine LTA going…
Yep, just before they decided to increase ERP from $0.00 to $1.00, proving they mean business.
And the LTA stands to earn an extra $2 per vehicle for drivers traveling through the PIE towards changi at Adam and Mount Pleasant road.
LTA has indicated that there are too many cars going through these ERP gantries, hence they have increased the ERP prices.
Thus, motorist travelling through these gantries on the PIE and the AYE stand to lose an extra $3 and $2 respectively.
Which might be painful especially for those coming from the West.
Until 20 May when LTA might review ERP rates.
