The Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) serves many functions.
It helps to reduce congestion during peak hours as well as “keep traffic moving at an optimal speed range of “45-65km/h on expressways”.
To combat these issues, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently announced an increase of ERP rates by $1 at 2 gantries along the Central Expressway (CTE) and Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) starting next Monday (6 May).
Those travelling to the central business district area from the north may want to start travelling to work earlier.
From 8.30-9am, vehicles that pass the ERP gantry before Braddell Road on the CTE will have to pay $2 instead of $1.
Otherwise, they can also take a short detour through Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 instead.

East-siders aren’t let off either. Motorists travelling from the East to Central Singapore via KPE will also be affected by the increased rates.
From 8-9am, vehicles that pass through the ERP gantry near Defu Flyover will have to pay $4 instead of the original $3.
Depending on where you’re planning to go, you could try getting past the ERP using MacPherson Road or Eunos Link.

Make sure that your IU has an adequate balance to pay for the tolls or you might have to pay an extra $2 administrative fee when a warning letter comes through your mail.
However, you can save on fee if you pay through one of these channels.
Rather than go through all this trouble, why not just ensure that your card and IU are in order before driving off today.
