But the central spirit of the festive occasion still revolves firmly around the idea of reunion and community — as proven by the residents of Eunos last week.

Despite the haze, Singaporeans turned out in droves to celebrate the festival with free mooncakes, in a heartwarming affair on Saturday (14 Sep) evening.

Haze didn’t dampen Eunos residents’ spirits

Although PSI levels weren’t looking ideal, the haze didn’t stop Eunos residents from turning up to spread the Mid-Autumn Festival cheer to the estate.

Mr Pritam Singh – Aljunied GRC’s Member of Parliament – shared a heartfelt post about how he was heartened to see Singaporeans of all ages enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival together.

Blk 137 residents picked up litter before going home

Stray litter – paper lanterns & candle wax strewn all over void deck floors are common in the aftermath of MAF every year – was also “enthusiastically cleared” at Blk 137’s open plaza before everyone called it a night.

Mr Singh shares that he was sure the cleaners would be “pleasantly surprised” at the initiative the next morning.

Mr Singh concludes his post with a promise to continue monitoring the PSI index closely.

He also shares his hope that the forest fires in Sumatra will be “put out soon”. And that residents will minimise outdoor activities accordingly depending on the PSI levels.
