4th EXPO Healthcare Worker Tests Positive For Covid-19, Radiographer Listed As Unlinked Case

Healthcare Worker At EXPO Among 5 Community Covid-19 Cases On 7 May

As more are offering their services to help manage the rising Covid-19 cases, more people at the frontlines also translates to higher risk of exposure.

Sadly, it comes as no surprise that more healthcare workers are contracting the virus, at hospitals or community care facilities (CCF) alike. A worker at EXPO, specifically a radiographer, recently became the 4th case from the venue.

He was also among 5 community cases yesterday (7 May).

Worker reported at EXPO before hospital admission

According to the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) press release, the 43-year-old Singapore Citizen had reported for work at the EXPO CCF before hospital admission.

When his last day of work was exactly is currently unclear, and so is his early onset of symptoms. He tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday (7 May).

MOH lists his exposure as an unlinked case, an indication that they couldn’t determine where he may have gotten the infection from.

With so little information is available, it’s hard to conceive whether he has any contact with the other EXPO workers, as follows:

Despite recording 4 cases among workers so far, EXPO has yet to become an infection cluster.

MOH never disclosed how they identify clusters, so we can’t determine why the above isn’t so. The best guess is perhaps that no links have been drawn between them for now.

1 other healthcare worker among community cases on 7 May

A 33-year-old female Singaporean was also one of the community cases reported on 7 May.

The healthcare assistant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) tested positive for Covid-19 the day before, and had worked for a few hours prior to hospital admission.

Of the remaining 3 community cases, 2 are male Singaporeans who served Quarantine Orders at various workers’ dormitories.

The other is a Permanent Resident (PR) linked to the cluster at 2 Sungei Kadut Avenue, which now has 141 cases.

All the above 4 cases tested positive on 6 May.

6 new clusters emerge after contact tracing

After vigorous contact tracing, MOH has discovered 6 new clusters as follows:

  • 5 Sixth Lok Yang Road – 8 cases
  • 98 Kaki Bukit Industrial Terrace – 31 cases
  • 4 Sungei Kadut Avenue – 42 cases
  • 5 Tech Park Crescent – 40 cases
  • 3 Tuas Drive 1 – 15 cases
  • 52 Tuas View Square – 6 cases

Tracing cases back to clusters, while rather scary statistically, proves that contact tracing has been effective, allowing MOH to study these hotspots more closely.

Let’s hope that the extended ‘Circuit Breaker’ will continue seeing local cases falling, eventually to zero, and later reflect a similar downward trend in dormitories.

We wish all patients a smooth recovery.
