Just an hour after that, his left eye became red and swollen. The man quickly sought medical attention and was diagnosed with seasonal conjunctivitis.

Despite taking the medication doctors prescribed him, his condition did not improve. In fact, his vision got worse.

Doctors then told the man that the infection was too severe to be slowed down by medication.

Eye removed to stop infection from spreading to the brain

Given that his eye and its surrounding areas are becoming severely ulcerated, doctors decided to remove his whole eyeball to stop the infection from spreading to his brain.

Reports suggest that the fly responsible is a drain fly. These flies carry many germs and often live in dark, damp places.

Instead of swatting at it, according to SCMP, experts suggest gently shooing the fly away, then rinsing the area where the fly landed with water.

Additionally, regularly cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, where these flies often live, is highly recommended. It’s also advisable to keep these places dry.
