NTUC Fairprice Offers Pioneer Discount If You Help Your Ah Ma Buy Groceries Till 4 May

NTUC FairPrice Encourages Family Members To Shop For Elderly

On 24 Mar, FairPrice introduced a ‘Priority Shopping Hour’ on Mondays, allowing Pioneer Generation (PG) folks to grocery shop in a safer environment.

With the rise in community spread, the supermarket is introducing more incentives to help this group born before 1965 stay safe.

From 15 Apr to 4 May, family members can help their ah ma and ah gong do their grocery shopping and still enjoy special rates.

Family members can simply present the PG card

Currently, seniors holding a PG card can get a 3% discount off their total bill on Monday and Wednesdays.

However, in light of recent Covid-19 developments, it is unwise for seniors to go out to crowded supermarkets for their weekly shopping trips.

Therefore, FairPrice is encouraging them to stay at home by extending senior discounts to their family members, so that they can help with the grocery shopping instead.

Simply by flashing their senior family member’s PG card, they can enjoy the same 3% discount at checkout.

Protecting more vulnerable individuals

According to FairPrice CEO Mr Seah Kian Peng, this exception is in order to “further protect and keep them safe during these challenging times”.

However, the senior family member would have to be present should they want to shop during the priority hour from 7am to 8am.

Apart from the time put aside for elderly shopping, it is now also mandatory for individuals to wear face masks in supermarkets.

These measures ensure that individuals, especially the more vulnerable, are safe while securing their essential goods.

Keeping our Pioneer Generation safe during Covid-19

Kudos to NTUC FairPrice for looking out for our Pioneer Generation.

We need everyone to do their part during this critical phase.

Practice social distancing when you are dabao-ing lunch at a nearby hawker centre and wear a face mask if you are out and about.

Most importantly, do refrain from leaving your home as much as possible. As long as we diligently follow these guidelines, we will be able to tide through this difficult time in weeks to come.
