Fake Slide Appears At Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station Transit Hall, Turns Out It’s Fake

A slide recently appeared at the transit hall of Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, next to some escalators.

Unfortunately, you can’t actually take a ride down it.

One TikTok video that surfaced of the fake slide drew much discourse, with many expressing that they wished it were real.

Turns out, the slide is part of a new advertising campaign and social media contest by a local insurance provider.

On the other hand, there were several comments from people who questioned whether hitching a ride on the fake slide would bring one into ‘the Backrooms’.

‘The Backrooms’ are a popular online horror theory surrounding surreal liminal spaces, where places one would typically deem busy are unusually empty.

However, a TikTok user also noted that it would be impossible to put a slide through a column in a building.

Part of brand campaign & social media campaign by Etiqa Insurance Singapore

The fake slide is actually part of a brand advertising campaign by Etiqa Insurance Singapore.

According to a press release, Etiqa said that they rolled out “the first 3D captivating interactive installations” at the B3 transit hall of Dhoby Ghaut MRT station on 16 Oct.

The installations are part of its latest brand campaign, ‘With You for the Ride’. These include the now-viral slide and a surfboard.

“The Out-of-Home (OOH) installation beckons Singaporeans to explore life’s uncharted possibilities with Etiqa as their trusted companion,” the company said.

In light of the campaign, Etiqa is holding a social media contest where members of the public stand a chance to win a set of macarons.

All you have to do is take a picture of yourself having fun at the installations and post it on Instagram, tagging @etiqasg and #WithYouForTheRide.

The contest is currently ongoing and will last until 11 Nov.
