A family in Malaysia was captured furiously smashing their car with objects as the vehicle was about to get towed away from their home.
The video, reportedly taken by the tow truck driver, has been making rounds on social media, sparking discussions.
However, Sin Chew Daily reported that the car was getting towed away as its owner had failed to pay for their car loan for the past eight months.
In a video circulating on social media, a woman was seen smashing the car’s windshield with what appears to be a rock.
Besides its shattered windshield, the car’s frame was also visibly damaged, with its front bumper detached.
The camera then pans to show the tow truck parked in front of the car, seemingly waiting to tow it away.
Facing the tow truck driver, the woman says, “This is the car owner’s asset, there is no problem if we destroy the car.”
She then went on to destroy the car’s windows and side mirror.
Toward the end of the video, a man armed with a cross wrench could be seen breaking windows on the other side of the car.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the car was getting towed away as its owner had failed to pay for their vehicle loan for the past eight months.
The video drew strong reactions from netizens, most of whom were outraged by the family’s actions.
Many believe the family’s destructive behaviour would only sink them further into debt since they’d have to pay for the car’s repair fees.
Moreover, this may hurt their reputation and prevent them from taking on new loans in the future.
However, one commenter suggested that the family may have done this due to the interest rates being unfairly high.
