S’poreans Must Dabao Food From All F&B Outlets, So Pack Your Clean Tupperware To Go

All Singapore F&B Outlets Must Offer Takeaway Till 4 May

As an essential service, it’s a relief to know that food outlets will remain open for the foreseeable future. After all, food is for the soul, and during these dark times, all our souls could use some comfort.

However, in line with stricter social distancing measures, all F&B outlets will not allow dining in options from 7 Apr onwards.

Customers will only be allowed to dabao – aka takeaway – food from all stores. This will continue until 4 May, and the rule applies to all F&B outlets, hawker centres and coffee shops.

This was announced by Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing, during a ministerial task force address to the nation on Friday (3 Apr).

Still can GrabFood, don’t worry

For those of us who are wondering how we can still get our favourite bak chor mee from the office if we’re working from home, you’ll still be able to call for a delivery during this period.

This is great news for taxi and private-hire car drivers, who are allowed to deliver groceries & food to make up for loss in income since everyone has to stay home.

Safe distancing rules still apply at F&B outlets

Customers are prohibited from eating or drinking in the restaurant while waiting for their orders, confirmed the minister.

He also outlined the importance of following “enhanced safe distancing measures”, if citizens decide to visit F&B outlets.

Efforts to dissipate crowds must also continue — each patron should stand at least a metre apart from others at all times.

Pack your dabao container to stay eco-friendly & safe

Given the amount of takeaway that is going to happen, let’s remember to be eco-friendly and bring our own clean dabao containers, as recommended by Minister Chan.

We can not just save money, but the environment as well.

And although it’s sad we can’t dine alfresco – in this case, outside of our houses – let’s just keep in mind that this is only temporary. Getting over the pandemic is more important.

As usual, do remember to practise good hygiene and stay strong during this period.
