The recent bout of hot weather has sparked a few fires around Singapore of late.
Unfortunately, these Woodlands residents’ mornings were interrupted when yet another fire broke out in their HDB block.
Thankfully, the affected residents were all evacuated and none were injured, according to The Straits Times’ (ST) report.
Watch this Facebook video of the fire to get a better understanding of what happened.
According to ST’s report, the fire occurred at Block 845 Woodlands Street 82, and is believed to have started in the early morning.
In the video, the fire has engulfed the air conditioning units of 3 floors. A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesperson told MS News that the 3 floors were levels 8, 9 and 10.
As the fire raged, large clouds of black smoke were released.
It’s currently suspected that the fire may have started in one of the bedrooms of the 3 affected flats.
Investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.
The SCDF told ST that a total of 25 people were evacuated from the fire. 20 of them were evacuated by SCDF, while 5 came down voluntarily.
SCDF managed to put the fire out with two water jets shortly after they arrived.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary and MP for Sembawang GRC Mr Amrin Amin visited the homeowners of the affected flats this morning.
He took to Facebook to share their plight.
In his post, Mr Amin wrote that he feels “very sorry for them” as the fire posed a great inconvenience to them, and was an unfortunate start to their Thursday.
He also thanked SCDF and Singapore Police Force (SPF) for their prompt work.
Hopefully, the homeowners receive sufficient compensation for the damage of their flats, and that they can find alternative arrangements for their lodging tonight.
The situation isn’t great, but at least everyone’s safe.
MS News thanks SCDF and SPF for their great work, and we wish the affected families a smooth bounce-back from this incident.
