Flight to Korea cancelled after 8-hour delay as pilot exceeded working hours

Flight to Korea cancelled after 8-hour delay as pilot was already working overtime

On Wednesday (27 Nov), some passengers headed to Korea from Japan were flabbergasted when their Korean Air flight was cancelled after an eight-hour delay.

One woman took to X to vent her frustrations after the cancellation led to her missing many of her reservations planned in Korea. The post has received over 9,800 likes and 6.5 million views.

Pilot was apparently exceeded working hours

According to FlightRadar24, Korean Air KE2102 was supposed to depart from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 12.25pm JST. However, on the clip shared by the woman, the signboard showed the flight was delayed to 8.50pm.

She said the flight was ultimately cancelled at 9pm. This led to a crowd of frustrated passengers seeking answers from the airline’s staff members. One man even shouted at the female staff in Korean.

In a follow-up post, the woman claimed she was informed that the pilot had exceeded his working hours. While she agreed that he should not be flying the aircraft, she questioned why the airline did not have a backup pilot ready.

Cancellation affected her vacation reservations

Although some observers speculated that the delay was due to the record snowfall in Korea, the woman said staff had assured her that wasn’t the case.

Due to the cancellation, many passengers had to book a room at the airport hotel. The woman even added that she had to cancel many of her reservations. Sadly, she was unsure if her credit card company would compensate her for any of them.

The airline, however, offered passengers a ¥2,000 (S$18) lunch voucher after the initial delay. When she notified her credit card company, they also compensated her ¥20,000 (S$180) for a meal she had planned to have.

The woman eventually arrived in Korea a full day later. She even complimented the delicious in-flight meal.
