Every once in a while, we find discoveries that make us believe that an otherworldly phenomenon is at play.
For one Reddit user in Malaysia, it is a swarm of mysterious flying objects recently captured on video at the top of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) building, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers.
In the 6-second clip, the camera zooms in on the top of KLCC, where a swarm of flying objects appearing as dots in the distance is seen under the building’s glow.
The video immediately garnered attention in the r/malaysia community after it was posted on Monday (2 Dec).
Netizens quickly jumped in with their theories, with some joking that the flying objects might be aliens, gargoyles, or the spirits of those who had passed.
Several also commented that these were fairies, citing Tinkerbell from the children’s book Peter Pan, or the terrifying Dementors that guard the Azkaban prison in Harry Potter.
Meanwhile, some users quipped that the objects on top of the tower were snow, or their dandruff after failing to use anti-dandruff shampoo.
However, the most popular theory is that the flying objects might have been bats feeding on insects attracted to the building’s light.
In response, some expressed disbelief that insects could reach the top of the KLCC, which is 88 floors high and spans 1,483 feet, including its spire.
However, a user who said they used to intern at the building, shared that they have seen bees making their hive as high as the 50th floor.
Additionally, some commenters clarified that insects don’t just consume flowers but can live on simple sugars which could also be found in some food waste.
