A 13-year-old boy and a 45-year-old foodpanda rider were arrested after the former reportedly assaulted the latter outside a mall in Bukit Batok.
In a video circulating online, the boy was seen kicking the man and hitting him in the head.
The dispute allegedly started after the rider said to the boy, “See what?”
After passers-by intervened, both parties were conveyed to the hospital and arrested for affray. Investigations are now ongoing.
The incident took place last Sunday (23 Apr) at 6.24pm at the Le Quest Shopping Mall in Bukit Batok, Shin Min Daily News reported.
It allegedly started when the rider asked the boy, “See what?”
In a video shared on Stomp, the boy can be heard shouting, “Lai!” or ‘come’ in Mandarin to the rider, as if to instigate a fight.
As the rider points to him in a warning gesture, the boy starts throwing punches on the back of the older man’s head.
The teenager also appears to kick the rider a few times on the back, with the final kick causing the latter to fall over his bike.
All the while, the rider does not seem to retaliate.
Towards the end, a passer-by can be heard threatening to call the police.
According to the Stomp reader who submitted the video, the boy’s mother had been with him when the assault occurred.
When the passer-by threatened to call the police, the parent allegedly cussed at them.
The reader also said that the rider simply let the teenager punch and kick him until the police arrived.
They claimed that the rider was unaware of what actually led the boy to assault him.
Four police officers and two ambulances reportedly arrived at the scene later.
Following the arrival of police and the ambulances, the teenager and rider were conveyed to the hospital conscious.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the police confirmed the matter and said that both parties were arrested for causing an affray.
Investigations are currently underway.
