Liu Yiwei, a 19-year-old Chinese national pursuing his studies in Singapore, recently suffered a heart attack due to a blocked artery.
As a result of the cardiac arrest, Liu’s heart reportedly stopped for more than 30 minutes.
Even though paramedics were successful in reviving Liu, the teenager remains unconscious and is receiving intensive care at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

As Liu’s medical bills continue to mount, his parents are appealing to the public for donations.
According to the appeal on give.asia, Liu was an ambitious teenager who came to Singapore with lofty dreams of bettering his family’s life.

Upon hearing of the worrying news, Liu’s parents rushed from China to visit their only son.
However, they were greeted by the “unbearable” sight of their once-lively son now in an unresponsive state.
To add to the parents’ emotional toll, Liu’s medical bills are also increasing by the day.
Having already spent on Liu’s education, the parents are now faced with an “overwhelming debt” that they are unable to afford.
As such, the parents are appealing to members of the public to help with Liu’s medical bills.
Liu’s parents have set out a goal of S$100,000 on the fundraising page. Nearly S$28,000 has been raised at the time of writing.
Those able and willing to contribute can do so via the give.asia fundraiser.
