It seems like more people around the world are starting to take social distancing more seriously, and have even begun voluntarily staying indoors if they can help it.
Staying indoors for days on end can be depressing, and Japan’s government is aware of that. To help citizens through these difficult times, they’re considering helping their citizens in an unconventional – but entirely welcome – way.
The Japanese government is reportedly considering giving out free wagyu beef to their citizens, gifting them with a little taste of luxury to tide over staying cooped up at home.
Like many around the world, the Japanese are finally taking Covid-19 more seriously, with more of them opting to stay home and cook rather than go out for meals.
Along with the plummeting number of tourists visiting the country, the drop in demand has caused an excess in one of Japan’s most coveted products – wagyu beef.
For the first time ever, the Land of the Rising Sun is experiencing an excess of wagyu beef.
This has taken a toll on the Japanese beef industry, so the relevant authorities are proposing that the government help them and give their citizens a little treat by giving out wagyu beef for free.
According to SoraNews24, Japan’s Agriculture and Forestry Committee is proposing to the government that they give out vouchers to citizens for free wagyu beef.
Not only will this boost people’s spirits with a juicy gourmet wagyu beef steak, but it’ll also give the beef industry an economic boost.
Apparently, this is one of the many plans that Japan’s politicians have proposed to get their country through the difficult economic downturn caused by Covid-19.
It’s great that governments are providing their people will welfare to support them through this crisis.
Sure, it’s not the $48 billion dollar relief package Singapore has, but free gourmet wagyu beef sounds pretty good too.
Hopefully, this motivates the Japanese to continue staying at home more. It’s helping the economy, and reducing the spread of Covid-19 — what’s not to like?
