While most folks wouldn’t find frog leg porridge unusual, Pizza Hut China has decided to take things up a notch with a deep-fried frog pizza.
This unique creation, dubbed ‘Goblin Pizza’, emerged from a collaboration between Pizza Hut and the video game ‘Dungeon Fighter Online’ and was introduced on 18 Nov.
It features a mala-flavoured base, topped with fried bullfrog and a generous amount of coriander.
However, if you were expecting the glossy, perfectly styled version seen in the ad, you might be in for a surprise.
A Weibo user, who spent 171 yuan (around S$31) on the set meal, shared their reaction (“Is it even possible for someone to come up with this meal concept?”) along with a photo of the dish.
While there is, indeed, a whole bullfrog lying on top, the presentation is far less polished — though, perhaps, this is to be expected.
The “eyes” turned out to be egg halves with olives as pupils, while ketchup was used to resemble blood vessels.
“Can the Product Development and Innovation Department talk to me when you’re free? I want to know how you were feeling when you created this,” the user joked.
Interestingly, the coriander was delivered separately in another bag, only noticed after the pizza had nearly been finished.
Many Chinese netizens shared their surprise and amusement over the Goblin Pizza.
One commenter even tagged the Italian embassy in China, humorously urging: “Please send troops, your excellency.”
“Take this pizza and leave the planet. Go!” quipped another user.
“Have you been possessed by Pizza Hut Taiwan?” asked a netizen, referencing Taiwan’s history of bizarre pizza creations.
They were likely referring to Pizza Hut Taiwan’s turtle-shaped pizza, which was unveiled in March this year.
