While visiting Lorong 35 Geylang, a 27-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a stranger.
What perhaps makes the alleged robbery even more brazen was that it happened on Tuesday (15 Oct) morning, at about 9.40am.
According to the police, the victim allegedly had S$7 in cash and his handphone — valued at S$199 — taken from him. He also sustained minor injuries from the incident.
The alleged robber, a 29-year-old man, subsequently handed the phone to two other men, aged 21 and 36.
The pair later sold the stolen handphone for an undisclosed sum.
With the help of CCTV footage and the results of ground enquiries, police officers identified all three men and arrested them within the next two days.
The stolen phone was also recovered.
The trio are expected to be charged in court on Friday (18 Oct).
The 29-year-old involved in the Geylang incident faces the charge of robbery with hurt, which comes with a jail term of between five and 20 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Meanwhile, the other two men will be charged for receiving stolen property.
If found guilty, they face up to five years’ jail, a fine, or both.
