Over the last two weeks, 112 drug offenders in total were arrested by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).
One of them was a 16-year-old girl who is suspected of drug abuse, CNB said in a news release on Monday (28 Oct).
The girl was the youngest suspect arrested in the islandwide anti-drug operation, which was conducted over 12 days from 14 to 25 Oct.
Some estates covered were Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi, Eunos, Jurong and Tampines.
The total amount of drugs seized include:
They have an estimated street value of about S$296,000.
In particular, CNB raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Bedok South Avenue 3 before dawn on 14 Oct.
A large quantity of of ‘Ice’ — about 1.7kg — 69g of heroin and 17g of cannabis were recovered from the unit.
Two Singaporeans, a 42-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, were also arrested.
On 16 Oct, two residential units in the same block near Eunos Crescent were raided.
In the first unit, about 32g of ‘Ice’, 7g of heroin, six Erimin-5 tablets and some ‘Ecstasy’ tablets were recovered.
A Singaporean husband and wife were also arrested. The husband is 55 while his wife is 37.
The couple have two children, aged 10 and 12. Both of them were in the unit during the raid.
The children are now being cared for by their next-of-kin.
At the second Eunos Crescent unit, the occupants refused to allow officers to enter despite them having lawful orders to access the unit.
Officers had to use force to enter, whereupon they arrested a 25-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both Singaporeans.
“A small amount of heroin” was also seized from the unit.
Investigations are ongoing into all the arrested suspects.
During CNB raids in June, a 15-year-old girl was arrested for suspected drug consumption.
The Secondary Three student was the youngest person arrested during the islandwide anti-drug operation from 10 to 14 June.
After a drug bust in September, CNB’s Senior Assistant Commissioner Sng Chern Hong, who is Deputy Director of Policy & Administration, noted that it was “disheartening” to see more teenagers arrested in drug busts.
Not just young lives are being destroyed by drugs, but their families and loved ones are becoming victims, he said, adding:
We cannot but again emphasise, that parents need to join us in efforts to educate the young on the harms of drugs and its destructive effects on families and society. Let’s start the conversation now, before it is too late.
