A minute-long video of a young girl in Gaza carrying her younger sister has gone viral on social media.
Palestinian journalist Alaa Hamouda first uploaded the clip to Instagram on Monday (21 Oct).
The girl was seen walking barefoot on the road while carrying her sister over her shoulder.
Meanwhile, the younger girl appeared to have a cast on her left leg.
In the video, Mr Alaa Hamouda asked her why she carried her sister. She then explained that her sister had been hit by a car and was unable to walk.
“Where are you taking her?” questioned the journalist. The girl replied that she was taking her sister back to their tent in Muntazah Al-Breij.
When asked if she was tired, the young girl said: “I am tired, I’ve been carrying her for over an hour. And I can’t do it any longer.”
The two young girls then accepted a ride to their destination. Upon arriving, the older sister continued to carry her sister across the road.
In a follow-up post, Mr Alaa Hamouda explained that he came across the two young girls at Salahaddin Street.
The younger girl had just received treatment at a nearby hospital earlier that day, and they had been heading back to their tent at the time.
The video has since been shared on multiple platforms including X. Following the clip, many have expressed sympathy towards the girls.
One netizen commented that the scene was heartbreaking.
Another netizen said the girl had taken on the responsibility of caring for her sister at such a young age, like a parent.
