Last Thursday (14 Nov), 10-year-old Liu Kai Xin (name transliterated from Chinese) fell from her bicycle and hit her head in Selangor, Malaysia.
After suffering a brain haemorrhage, she underwent surgery but became brain-dead less than 30 hours after the procedure.
At about 10am on Wednesday (20 Nov), after being in a coma for about a week, Ms Liu was pronounced dead.
On the day of the incident, Liu was heading home after buying ice cream when her trousers got caught by her bicycle chain, causing her to fall and hit her head.
It was previously reported that a car had hit the girl. However, witnesses who testified claimed the child fell on her own.
Tears and traces of chain oil were also found on the child’s trousers.
Additionally, there were no signs of a collision on the girl’s bicycle.
According to Liu’s aunt, the police said they could continue an in-depth investigation into the case and conduct an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
However, the girl’s family reportedly refused the autopsy.
“My eldest sister said Kai Xin had suffered a lot and she didn’t want to have an autopsy after her death, so she refused to carry out the autopsy procedure,” she told Oriental Daily.
