Would you return to work a mere day after having a semi-serious medical treatment that involves widening your arteries?
Apparently, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong would.
The former Prime Minister posted an update on his Facebook page informing his followers about his health status, having undergone an angioplasty on Tuesday (24 Jul).
In essence, he only took 1 day MC before diving right back into work. As a 78-year-old ex-statesman, we think his work ethic is extremely admirable.
For those who aren’t aware of what an angioplasty is, this is what it entails according to HealthHubSG.
Also known as ‘stent-ing’, an angioplasty involves the threading of a tube with a balloon attached at the end, through a blood vessel located in the arm or elsewhere. The artery is widened by inflating the balloon.
Here’s an animated video about the procedure.
In lieu of his procedure, and condition of the “narrowing of arteries” due to his age, ESM Goh strongly recommends that Singaporeans of all ages go for regular health check-ups.
This will help nip possible medical risks in the bud, with early detection.
He also leaves his followers with a witty quip to ponder about,
As they say, prevention is better than cure. So watch your diet, as I will with mine!
ESM Goh is back at office a mere day after the angioplasty, although he mentions having to cancel some events as he is presumably not fully recovered yet.
Typically, one is given about a week to recover from the procedure. An angioplasty is considered a semi-major procedure as it could involve the coronary arteries and possibly the heart.
We at MS News hope that ESM Goh will be able to set aside ample time to rest even with his many responsibilities. We also applaud his work ethic for returning to work so soon after his medical procedure.
