Over 1,000 S’pore GP Clinics Remain Open During CNY If You Get Sore Throat From Too Much Bak Kwa

1,033 GP Clinics To Remain Open During CNY, 758 Are PHPCs

For many of us, Chinese New Year is a time for family gatherings and feasts, as we collectively put our diet plans aside to gorge on snacks like pineapple tarts and bak kwa.

Given how tasty these festive bites are, it’s pretty easy to lose track of how much you’ve eaten.

If you somehow find yourself with a sore throat or other symptoms during CNY, rest assured that you’ll still be able to seek medical help.

Between 11 and 14 Feb, over 1,000 general practitioners (GP) clinics will remain open at various timings.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) also urged members of the public to visit the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department in hospitals only if they develop serious or life-threatening conditions.

1,033 GP clinics to remain open during CNY period from 11-14 Feb

According to MOH, 1,033 GP clinics will remain open during the CNY period from 11-14 Feb, across various timings.

Of these, 758 are Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPC) that provide subsidised treatments.

MOH urged Singaporeans who develop respiratory symptoms like cough or sore throat to visit a PHPC and to undergo Covid-19 testing ASAP if their doctors advise them to do so.

The public should only visit the A&E department in hospitals should they experience “serious or life-threatening emergencies”, including:

  • Breathlessness
  • Chest pain
  • Uncontrollable bleeding

6 Regional Screening Centres to remain open from 10am-4pm

Though CNY is a festive period for many of us, we cannot let our guards down against Covid-19.

During this time, 490 PHPCs would reportedly be able to administer PCR Covid-19 swab tests.

In addition, 6 Regional Screening Centres islandwide will continue with their usual opening hours between 10am and 4pm, and will be to ‘receive’ patients who have been referred for swab tests by their physicians.

MOH would also like to remind Singaporeans to eat in moderation and to exercise on a regular basis so as to remain healthy over the CNY period.

Perhaps it might not be the worst idea to make time for a short jog or workout during the CNY weekend after all.

Celebrate CNY, but eat in moderation

If you happen to find yourself feeling under the weather over the CNY break, do seek medical attention at one of the GP clinics ASAP.

As challenging as it might be, we hope Singaporeans would also heed MOH’s advice to only consume food in moderation and to stay active during this period.

Have fun and stay safe, MS News wishes everyone a happy Chinese New Year.
