Many young boys in China are brought up mired in the values of this famous saying,
A strong man sheds not tears, but blood.
(男子汉大丈夫, 流血不流泪.)
For this 30-year-old groom in China, the struggle was real to contain his man-tears as he’d gone through plenty of trials and tribulations to find his bride, reports AsiaOne.
By trials, we mean watching 7 of his buddies find true love before him, as he was a groomsman at all of their weddings.
Now let’s take a closer look at what could possibly bring this emotionally strong man to tears at his own wedding.
You can watch the Weibo video in full here, we transcribe his speech in English below.
Groom: I couldn’t bear the wait any longer. [heavy sobs of joy] Getting married was way too hard. I’ve been a groomsman 7 times already.
Every time they get married, I always tease them. This time, they can tease me back, I don’t find it unpleasant at all. [crowd laughs] I’m so happy, I’ll truly enjoy it, sincerely. I’ll even thank you for teasing me.
I’ve dreamt of this moment all my life. To have this wedding, I must have saved the entire Milky Way in my past life. [unintelligible sobs] I love my bride so much, she treats me too well.
My new dad, mum, treat me so well. When I have meals at their house, mum will ask me if I’ve eaten. When I say I’ve forgotten, she’ll ask how that’s possible. I’ve said this before, her family is way too good for me.
Every meal at their house feels like a New Year’s spread. I OT-ed till 12am once, my own mum didn’t bother by the way, but her mother cooked noodles for me and delivered it to my house. After I ate it, she didn’t say anything, cleaned and left. [sobs of gratitude]
I’m finally married! Wife, would you like to say a few words? Sorry, it’s just been me talking.
Bride: I just want to say, no matter where you go, even if you’re tired, old or fat. As long as you return home, I’ll always be there waiting for you.
The groom, who hails from Fuyang, begins his wedding speech by exclaiming that he almost couldn’t bear the wait any longer.
Wracked with heavy sobs of joy, the 30-year-old pauses to collect himself, as his bride gently dabs his tears away with a tissue.
He then explains the reason behind his sudden breakdown — getting married was way harder than he thought.
Turns out, he’d been a groomsman for 7 of his buddies prior to his own wedding.
Having to endure their ceremonies with a smile, eventually made the patient man worry about landing a wife himself. He continues, sobbing,
I’ve dreamt of this moment every day, every night. To have this wedding, I must have saved the entire Milky Way in my past life.
The groom shares that his wife’s family “treat him so well”, always asking if he’s eaten, and plying him with sumptuous Chinese New Year-like meals when he visits.
Touched by their sincerity, he relates a heartwarming anecdote involving his mother-in-law.
He had to work overtime till 12am once, and although his own mother didn’t do anything special, his mother-in-law cooked late-night noodles and delivered it to his house.
Recollecting his emotions about her love for him, he shared,
After I ate it, she didn’t say anything, cleaned and left. [unintelligible sobs]
Overwhelmed by joy, the groom finally exclaims, “I’m finally married!” before breaking down in relief, amidst genuine laughter from the crowd.
Apologising to his wife for speaking too much, he asks her if she had anything to add.
His bride quipped that she had only one thing to say. In her words,
No matter where you go, even if you’re tired, old or fat, as long as you return home, I’ll always be there waiting for you.
Cue more happy tears, this time from the audience as well.
We’re incredibly glad that this 7-time groomsman has finally found a wife and family who’ll love him without reservations.
Although ‘strong’ men aren’t supposed to shed tears, we think the groom showed true strength in winning over his bride with his vulnerability. As a result, his courage and perseverance in his pursuit of lifelong happiness has finally borne fruit.
Every happiness to the lovebirds. This sincere groom is proof that we’ll all find true love eventually.
If not, all you bridesmaids and groomsmen do take note — eighth time’s the charm.
