Gudetama, the lazy egg yolk that loves to nua, has captured hearts against all odds since Sanrio debuted the tradition-breaking character in 2013.
This particular egg yolk will finally be broken open, however, as the Gudetama Café, along with fellow Sanrio-themed My Melody Café at Suntec City will be closing down on 17 Nov.
Eggs & More, the company that runs both cafés, announced this on Friday (4 Oct).
This news comes as another blow to Sanrio fans in Singapore.
Owing to the fact that other Sanrio-themed places have had to close their shutters permanently despite much fanfare when they opened, including the Hello Kitty Town in Johor Bahru.
Despite the sad news, the Gudetama and My Melody Cafés have had a good run.
Fans who wish to visit one last time can do so from 10 Oct onwards, when they will launch a closing sale on food and merchandise.
There’ll be a 33% discount deal that’s applicable for 3 food items – a minimum of 2 mains and 1 dessert ordered – while merchandise will also go for 33% off.
While wait times were long when the cafes first opened, Eggs & More’s partnership license with Sanrio has ended and will not be renewed, to the dismay of fans.
Here’s how to get there – the cafes are located close to each other.

Whether you prefer the melancholic Gudetama or the more traditionally cute My Melody, there’s only so much time left before we can bask in these themed cafés in Singapore.
So take some time off your life to visit before they shut forever on 17 Nov.
Hopefully something else like these cafés open up in Singapore so we can get our fix of the lazy egg yolk and pink-hooded bunny again.
