Residents staying in a Chin Swee Road HDB block reportedly smelt an unusual and pungent odour on Tuesday (10 Sep).
According to Lianhe Zaobao, police were alerted to the case and found a half-cooked corpse in a pot.
As it turns out, the corpse was a half-cooked human foetus, as translated by the report in Chinese. We were equally shook when we read about it.
According to residents staying at the HDB block, 2 men who are brothers stay in the unit where the foetus was found.
The brothers have apparently been staying there for around 4 months.
Lianhe Zaobao reports that police officers made house visits after they found the foetus in the pot, and are believed to be looking for the unit’s previous tenants to assist investigations.
The previous tenants are said to be a married couple who had several young kids.
Regarding the current tenants, i.e. the 2 brothers, we learnt that the older brother is reportedly serving a prison sentence. This leaves his younger brother, a 20-year-old, who is staying alone in the flat.
Lianhe Zaobao reports that the younger brother was interrogated by the police earlier. But neighbours claimed they did not see him around, and are unsure if he had moved out temporarily or is away assisting the police.
Apart from the brothers, residents have also seen a young lady visiting them. They believe that the lady has a close relationship with the brothers.
As authorities have yet to confirm the foetus’ identity, we don’t know when the ‘cooking’ of the foetus happened. Lianhe Zaobao also writes that there’s currently no information on whether the lady is involved in the incident.
At the time of writing, there remains a huge number of unanswered questions regarding the foetus, how it ended up in a pot, and the 2 brothers.
For starters, we don’t know how many weeks old the foetus was.
Additionally, it remains a mystery whether the foetus was aborted due to natural factors or man-made causes.
Regardless of what happened, we hope the police will get to the bottom of this ASAP and bring the people responsible for this heinous act to justice.
We’ve reached out to the police for comments, and they said that investigations are ongoing.
