Hari Raya Puasa may happen twice in 2033, expect more holidays & bazaar food

Hari Raya Puasa may happen in Jan & Dec 2033

We love cultural occasions because of the good food and stunning outfits.

Getting to celebrate events like Deepavali only once a year is special, but what happens if we get to do it twice?

The possibility is shocking many, so much so that a Facebook post by Siakap Keli Press about Hari Raya Puasa happening twice in the year 2033 went viral when it surfaced in 2020.

Here’s a loose translation of the caption in English: “You guys can discuss politics first. Checking the 2033 calendar now. Wanna tell you Hari Raya is twice a year in 2033.”

Hari Raya Puasa may happen twice in 2033

The rising costs of living may dampen people’s moods now, but knowing what’s in store in 2033 gives us something to look forward to.

According to timeanddate.com, which records holidays in Saudi Arabia where the Islamic holy site of Mecca is, Eid al-Fitr or Hari Raya Puasa will fall on 3 Jan and 23 Dec 2033.

That’s right after New Year’s Day and right before Christmas, so imagine all the celebrations that are going to happen.

Sure nine years is a long time to wait, but a double dose of festivities might just be worth it.

Imagine all the food you’ll get to gorge on — kuih, ketupat and rendang galore, brace yourselves for the ultimate food coma.

Twice the amount of all the yummy, sugary and greasy food means more diets and exercise to compensate, but hey, maybe that could help build a workout routine.

More food & holidays for everyone

You’ll typically get to taste such dishes if your family makes them, or if you visit a Malay friend’s home. But those who don’t get the chance can turn to the bazaars instead, which operate throughout the fasting month of Ramadan till the first day of Hari Raya.

Two Hari Raya celebrations likely mean Ramadan bazaars twice a year too, so we’re excited to see them pop up across Singapore.

Now that there are more locations each year, perhaps there’ll even be one in every neighbourhood by 2033.

You’d probably get so full from eating all the food, you’d need time to recuperate.

With Hari Raya happening twice that year, there should be plenty of holidays going around for you to spend recovering from your food coma.

A rare occasion to look forward to

Of course, with Hari Raya happening twice a year, you’d probably have to spend more on food, clothes, decor and not to forget, Hari Raya packets.

Let’s hope the economy will be faring well then, so we’ll all be in the mood to celebrate.
