As Singaporeans, patronising hawker centres whenever our stomachs are rumbling is a national habit we’re all proud of.
While our friendly hawker aunties and uncles often make our days with their mouth-watering delicacies and their efforts in memorising our kopi orders, one such stall in Circuit Road won hearts in an unlikely way — their GST.
But rest assured, GST actually stands for something else other than that acronym.
Located in Circuit Road Market & Food Centre, the Kampong Bugis Hakka Yong Tau Fu stall stands out with its bright yellow signage.
Looking at the sign on the left, we noticed a prominent word that’s enough to make every Singaporean run in the opposite direction — GST.
But take a closer look and the words might just bring a smile to your faces.
GST, in this case, actually stands for: Greet, Smile, Thank you.
It signifies the commitment that the hawker uncle has towards all those who come for a tasty bowl of his yong tau foo.
Hawkers often make their customers’ day with their excellent service and tasty food, but this uncle has also managed to put a smile on netizen’s faces.
This netizen named the GST as the finest he has heard of.
Another commented that many hawkers do not put up such signs, but some of them fail to provide excellent services.
However, a netiznen also hilariously quipped that he would sprint away from the stall immediately upon seeing the GST sign.
While we don’t blame him, we would suggest that he takes a closer look first before doing anything next time.
Kudos to the stall owner of Kampong Bugis Hakka Yong Tau Fu for making the effort to provide good service to all his customers.
