H&M Singapore Will Charge $0.10 Per Plastic Bag From 25 July

H&M Singapore Will Charge Customers For Plastic Bags

Whether you’re an eco warrior or not, replacing plastic bags with reusable bags is fairly easy when it comes to grocery shopping.

But what do you do when fashion outlets like H&M start clamping down on plastic bags too?

The Swedish fashion chain announced on Monday (15 Jul) that all outlets in Singapore will charge $0.10 for every plastic bag used. This is according to a report by CNA.

Those who frequent H&M or intend to shop there soon, better get your small change ready.

Plastic bag charge part of H&M’s new initiative

The $0.10 charge per plastic bag will start next Thursday (25 Jul) at all H&M outlets.

Proceeds from the charges will go to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Singapore’s Plastic ACTion (PACT) initiative, which aims to eradicate plastic pollution.

Both the plastic bag charges and PACT will work hand in hand towards reducing H&M’s plastic use.

In the long run, H&M is also hoping to move towards using reusable materials or recycled plastic in its packaging.

What customers can do

Customers who shop at H&M are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags to carry their purchases home.

Reusable bags will also be available for purchase in-store for those who don’t have their own.

Those who still want to use plastic bags can still do so, at the cost of $0.10 per bag.

But imagine the amount of money you can save by investing in a reusable bag, which you can store your entire clothes haul in.

No need to fish for coins to pay for the individual plastic bags that you’ll end up throwing away anyway.

Help H&M save the environment

H&M’s new move may cause mixed reactions among customers, but we can’t deny that it’s a positive step towards saving the environment.

Our planet is our precious home, so we should all do our part to protect it.
