New iPhone 15 Launched With USB-C Charger, S’poreans Can Pre-Order From 15 Sep

iPhone 15 Available For Pre-Order Soon, Prices The Same As Previous Model

Tech giant Apple launched the new iPhone 15 series yesterday (12 Sep). The various versions will be available for pre-order in Singapore from Friday (15 Sep).

The most substantial change comes in the form of the new USB-C charging cables, replacing Apple’s proprietary cables.

Apple additionally announced that it would not raise prices for the new series.

iPhone 15 to use USB-C charger instead

Fans of Apple’s iconic iPhones can rejoice with the unveiling of the new iPhone 15 series.

Among the promised features are a brighter display and a better 48-megapixel camera, according to Apple on X.

But perhaps the more substantial change is the new adoption of the USB-C cables. The symmetrical cables prevent the annoyance of having to flip the charger around to try to get it in.

The change from the company’s proprietary cables likely comes as a result of the European Union mandating all devices to be compatible with USB-C cables.

Otherwise, the iPhone 15 retains the same A16 Bionic chip that the iPhone 14 series ran on.

Pre-orders begin on 15 Sep

The global smartphone market entered a noticeable decline in 2022, with a decline of nearly 30 million phones shipped in Q2.

Consequently, Apple declared its decision not to raise prices for the new series — certainly a bright spot for any customer concerned about expenses.

In Singapore, iPhone 15 prices begin at S$1,299 while iPhone 15 plus will be available from S$1,449, in a wide variety of colours.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro features an even higher price starting at S$1,649, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max at S$1,999.

The latter is the largest Apple makes, and features a better zoom feature on the camera that may make it worth the price for some.

The new iPhone series is available for pre-order from 8pm this Friday (15 Sep). Those who prefer to wait for the actual release can get the phones a week later on 22 Sep.

One can only wonder if we will once more see overnight queues at Apple Stores here like we did for the iPhone 14 release.
