Famous for several cat islands that have more feline than human residents, Japan has more than just its people to save.

And one cat island, in particular, may face an imminent threat.

Japan typhoon expected to hit Okishima island

Typhoon Hagibis, the most powerful storm Japan has seen in years, wreaked havoc across Tokyo early this morning.

Landslides, floods and strong winds overturned vehicles, took several lives and left many others missing in their wake.

Central Japan experienced record levels of rainfall which will descend over other areas like Hokkaido and Sapporo soon.

Okishima, one of Japan’s many cat islands, is also in the line of fire. This, according to a viral Facebook post by Thai page slavetomycat on Friday (11 Oct) expressing concern for the cats’ safety.

With the typhoon likely to hit the cat island, cat lovers everywhere are anxious for the kitties’ survival.

There may not be enough people to help

Since the island famously has more cats than people, it’s inevitable that there won’t be enough people to go around ensuring the cats’ safety.

Imagine when strong winds and intense rainfall descend upon Okishima. Where would the cats go then?

Cat lovers on the page shared their sadness at the heartbreaking thought, but pray that the felines’ natural instincts will save them.

Hope that Okishima’s cats will be safe

For now, there’s no saying what the fate of the cats will be, but we sincerely hope and pray for the best.

May their survival instincts save them from any danger, so Japan’s cat islands can continue to thrive and bring joy to people again once the typhoon blows over.

Our thoughts are with the people of Japan as they brave through this terrifying disaster.

MS News extends our condolences to the families of the victims, and we hope and pray for everyone’s safety.
