Green lights at customs checkpoints usually indicate that an officer is on shift and that motorists may head over to get clearance.
Recently, however, motorists were left confused when they encountered vacant counters at a checkpoint in Johor Bahru despite the green light being on.
According to Oriental Daily, a total of 17 unmanned counters at the Sultan Abu Bakar Checkpoint Building (KSAB) displayed green lights.
A TikTok video showing the scene has since gone viral, amassing over 140,000 likes at the time of writing.
“The counters are all green but they are blocked with a barrier so cars can’t enter,” the caption states. “Why? It turns out that there is no officer.”
The scene sparked outrage among drivers as they were ‘tricked’ by the green lights.
According to the New Straits Times (NST), State Works, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli, conducted spot checks at the checkpoint on Friday (11 Oct).
Upon arrival, he found seventeen unmanned counters with their respective green lights switched on. He subsequently switched off the green lights.
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus added that internal investigations are underway.
“We do not condone this behaviour, and stern disciplinary actions will be taken against them … if it is established, they had neglected their duties,” he told NST.
