Jealous Man Hits GF & Hurls Her Luggage From MBS Balcony, Gets 3 Months’ Jail

Tourist Hurls Girlfriend’s Stuff Out Of Hotel & Hit Her Because He Was Jealous, Gets 3 Months’ Jail

A tourist in Singapore got jealous after seeing his girlfriend dancing with another man.

In a fit of rage, he assaulted her and destroyed several items, before hurling luggage bags and backpacks out of the balcony of a Marina Bay Sands (MBS) hotel room.

He was arrested, but not before he assaulted an officer. For this, he was jailed on 6 Jan for 3 months and 4 weeks, reports The New Paper.

Started arguing at 4am when going back to MBS

Taputoro Meihana Deane Delamere, 33, went clubbing with his 29-year-old girlfriend last year on 16 Nov. Both tourists are from New Zealand.

At the club, the girlfriend danced with another man, upsetting the jealous Delamere.

They returned to their hotel room on the 7th floor of Marina Bay Sands at around 4am. By then, they were arguing, with Delamere shouting at her.

Delamare became violent, broke glass panel & asked her to jump

Delamere then punched and kicked her, and threw her phone against a wall.

Blinded by rage, he broke the balcony’s glass panel with a chair and destroyed several other items in the room, including a coffee table.

Delamere tried dragging her to the window and proposed suicide, asking his girlfriend to jump off with him.

Thankfully, she managed to run out of the room.

Hurled suitcases out of the window

At about 5.30am, Delamere started to hurl items out of the window of the room. 2 suitcases, 2 backpacks and 1 metal pole were thrown out.

The items miraculously landed on the road and did not injure anyone.

Court documents revealed that the rampage caused more than $8,700 of damages to the MBS hotel room. Apart from 3 glass panels at the balcony, he also damaged several chairs, a coffee table, a sprinkler head and more.

Challenged & assaulted police

The police were called to the scene at around 5.50am. The officers observed him from an adjacent room since he locked himself in the room.

Delamere brazenly climbed over a parapet and approached the officers, located in another hotel room.

While they were trying to arrest him, the struggle led to a volunteer police sergeant hitting his head against a glass door. Delamere also punched another officer while resisting arrest.

Jailed for 3 months & 4 weeks

Delamere pleaded guilty to 1 charge each for a rash act endangering the safety of others, voluntarily causing hurt, and voluntarily hurting a police officer.

Other charges for hurting a police officer and mischief were “taken into consideration”.

In his written apology, he acknowledged his drinking problem, which led to his fit of rage — something he said he’d seek help for.

He was sentenced to 3 months and 4 weeks of jail on 6 Jan, with his sentence backdated to 22 Nov last year, when he was in remand.

Violence is not the answer

Thankfully, no one was struck by the items and the assailant’s girlfriend wasn’t badly injured. Delamere also expressed his remorse and knew what he did was wrong.

It’s important that we keep our cool even when we’re angry and remember that violence is never the answer.
