A driver encountered a tiger at the roadside in Mersing District, Johor and recorded it on video.
Facebook page KHI (Kluang Hari Ini) shared the video on 28 Oct, although it is not clear when the encounter occurred.
The footage, taken from inside a stationary car, showed a dark road illuminated by only headlights.
At the side of the road, a tiger stood in the grass staring at the car.
The big cat then turned away after a few seconds.
It continued walking down the roadside away from the bright headlights.
As it walked, one of the motorists in the car told the others to wait for the tiger to leave first.
Netizens in the comments identified the road as Jalan Nitar towards Tanah Abang, near a palm oil mill.
Despite the huge size of the animal, many commenters said that it appeared to be thin and struggling to find food. They thus expressed sympathy for the tiger.
Malayan tigers are critically endangered animals, with fewer than 150 individuals in the world as of 2022.
KHI also warned motorcyclists travelling the roads in the area to be careful of the tiger.
“This is not a joke question. 150cc motorcycle and this tiger, which is faster?” One user asked.
