In 2016, Manpower Minister Josephine Teo set social media ablaze after she famously said that “you need a very small space to have sex“.
Recently, Mrs Teo was asked about the exact quote during a sit-down with Ms Sumiko Tan from The Straits Times — an interview published on 8 Sep.
In response, Mrs Teo expressed regret for making the remark and claimed that it was a “private joke”.
Mrs Teo’s interview took place at the Two Chefs zi char restaurant, which she’s “indebted to” for graciously vacating their previous premises to make way for a childcare centre.

The pair touched on numerous topics during the interview, ranging from her family to her childhood.
But the most outstanding of them all would arguably be her ‘small space’ remark 3 years back that made headlines in Singapore.
When asked about the comment, Mrs Teo’s response was simple and to the point,
I should not have said that. It was meant as a private joke.
She also said given the fact that she’s constantly in the public eye, “nothing is really private anymore”. She considered this a lesson learnt.
Mrs Teo also touched on her straightforward personality, which seems to come as a double-edged sword in recent times.
During the interview, she was described as someone who “speaks frankly and freely“, which differentiates her from most Singapore politicians.
However, Mrs Teo concedes that she can be “too straight” at times, and is aware that some people may not be a fan of that. She was quoted as saying,
Unfortunately, I think I talk a bit too straight. Some people don’t take very well to that. My husband & friends are used to it. It’s like that, I say (it).
