Kid Freely Skates Across Sembawang Crossing, After Adult Guardian Fails To Guide Him

Kid Skates Dangerously At Sembawang Crescent Crossing

Children are often told to cross the road with the guidance of their parent or a responsible guardian.

While it’s a common sight to see children crossing with adult supervision, a male guardian allegedly went ahead to cross the road and left his child to catch up. The child rode a scooter, hurriedly tried to match his guardian’s pace and almost got hit by a car.

The video featuring the incident was posted on Roads.SG on Thursday (2 May) and has gotten 550 shares at the time of this article.

Here’s a video showing the incident in full, and we’ll have a break down of the event after the jump.

Road safety for guardians & parents with kids

It’s common for young children to hold an adult’s hand as they cross the road, but it’s important for parents and guardians to keep their eyes on their child whilst walking on the streets.

As a general rule, adults and young kids normally walk side-by-side. In some cases, the kid can stay ahead as long as he remains in his guardian’s line of sight.

If a parent temporarily leaves the child in the hands of an adult guardian, they should remind them to watch their children at all times, especially when crossing the road.

Children should also be taught to look left and right for signs of oncoming vehicles. Until the roads are clear, they should wait for the cars to pass and stand near the kerb.

Safety matters

Crossing the road is a mundane task for adults, but the stakes are high when you’re doing it with a child. While young kids can be taught the basics of road safety, they could panic and run at the sight of an approaching vehicle.

Having said that, it’s important for adults to guide kids while crossing a busy street.

It’s fortunate that no one was harmed in this incident, but we hope that adult guardians learn about road safety from this story.
