Kindergarten students in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were seen standing on desks in their classroom after being trapped by a flood at school this morning (15 Oct).
In a video shared on Facebook, the water level in the flooded kindergarten had risen to the height of the students’ desks.
Standing on their desks, the students carried their backpacks, with some crying out of fear.
The caption urgently called for help, stating that teachers and students were trapped.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said they received a call about the flood and students being trapped at around 10.28 a.m.
A team of six was dispatched for rescue work, where they found that waist-deep floodwaters had affected four houses and a kindergarten.
Residents were advised to seek shelter at a nearby penghulu, or traditional stilt houses.
Meanwhile, four teachers and 21 students from the kindergarten were rescued and taken to safety.
All of the children were then handed over to their parents.
The flooding was caused by river water rising due to heavy rain.
