Visitors at Windsor Nature Park witnessed a rare and dramatic fight between two king cobras on 8 Dec, drawing excitement from wildlife enthusiasts.
The encounter took place around 1pm when Mr Prashanta Kumar Mohanty received a tip-off from his friend Wayne about the snake fight.
Despite being “super tired” from a trip to Johor Bahru, Mr Prashanta, an IT professional in his 40s, told MS News he headed to the park to witness the rare spectacle.
When he arrived, he saw the intense struggle between a larger and smaller king cobra.
The snakes were engaged in a fierce battle, drawing the attention of several nature photographers.
Though king cobras are known to hunt other snakes, Mr Prashanta said he had never seen one going after its own kind.
He noted that cobras are resistant to each other’s venom, turning the battle into a contest of strength.
The fight even moved to the water at one point, where the one cobra seized the other with its fangs and dragged its opponent back to dry ground.
Footage captured the snakes furiously lunging and biting at each other.
During the fight, the larger cobra tried to swallow the smaller one but both got stuck in leaf litter, forcing it to abandon the attempt.
According to Mr Prashanta, the battle stretched over six hours, ending as the park closed at 7pm.
The larger snake was seen retreating into the water to hydrate before returning to drag its opponent into the bushes.
Mr Prashanta noted that the smaller cobra was still alive but largely motionless, with only its tail showing signs of movement.
He described the encounter as unforgettable and one of the rarest sightings in Singapore, noting it was only the second known instance of a king cobra attacking another of its kind here.
Another photographer who captured the tussle, Mr Ang, mentioned in a comment on his Facebook post that the larger king cobra appeared fine by the time everyone left and was likely to devour the smaller cobra.
MS News has reached out to him for details as well.
