Woman From Vietnam Is KTV Cluster’s First Case, She Regularly Visits Karaoke Outlets

Short-Term Visit Pass Holder From Vietnam Linked To KTV Cluster

Yesterday, Singaporeans were shocked to find out there were 56 new locally transmitted cases, with 42 of the 56 linked to the growing KTV cluster.

Determining the linkages between the cases is important to contain the spread. Hence, authorities revealed that the first case linked to the KTV cluster is a Short-Term Visit Pass holder from Vietnam.

A police investigation is underway to uncover whether there was a breach of rules.

Here’s what we know of the developments so far.

Index case linked to KTV cluster is a woman from Vietnam

According to The Straits Times, a Short-Term Visit Pass holder from Vietnam is the first case linked to the KTV cluster.

Singapore’s director of medical services Kenneth Mak revealed that she suffered symptoms of acute respiratory infection and went to a clinic on 11 Jul.

Tests revealed that she was positive for Covid-19 and was sent to the hospital right away. Contact tracing and investigations found that she visited many KTV outlets and nightclubs regularly.

Her close contacts had also tested positive. Some of them live in the same household as her.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said police would release more information about the Vietnamese woman soon.

4 more KTV lounges/clubs closed

According to MOH, there is likely ongoing transmission of the virus at 4 more KTV lounges/clubs that operate as F&B outlets.

These places are:

  • One Exclusive – 114 Middle Road
  • Level 9 – 114 Middle Road
  • Club M – 114 Middle Road
  • Terminal 10 – Clarke Quay

They have been ordered to close till 29 Jul. Free testing is offered to anyone who visited the aforementioned locations from 29 Jun-14 Jul.

You should also take note if you’ve visited the places below.

Investigations are ongoing among social hostesses who frequent KTV lounges and clubs, as well as their social contacts.

KTV cluster among Singapore’s largest active clusters

MOH reported a total of 42 new Covid-19 cases linked to the KTV cluster yesterday (15 Jul).

One of them included a 40-year-old passenger who was aboard a Dream Cruises ship. Once the passenger was identified as a close contact of a previous case, the ship returned to Marina Bay Cruise Centre 2.5 hours ahead of schedule.

With these numbers, the KTV lounge cluster now comprises 54 cases. It is currently one of Singapore’s largest active clusters.

KTV & nightclub patrons encouraged to get tested

As the KTV cluster rapidly grows, all patrons who’ve been to KTV lounges and nightclubs over the past month are encouraged to come forward and get tested.

Swift conduct tracing is paramount in ringfencing the infections, so we hope everyone can play their part in the fight against Covid-19.

We’re not out of the woods yet. So we implore everyone to be socially responsible and adhere to safe management measures when they’re out.
