On Wednesday (16 Oct) at around 1.30pm, a woman was caught on camera stealing a Labubu toy at a shop in Plaza Singapura.
The shop, Claw-Pi-Tiam, shared the CCTV footage of the incident on their Instagram page.
The woman was spotted walking into the shop in a black-and-white top. She then grabbed one item of the viral toy off the shelves.
Without attempting to conceal it, she subsequently walked around the shop for a few seconds before walking out.
“Say Cheese!!! U r on candid camera gal!!!” The shop owner captioned the Instagram post, adding that the thief had 24 hours to return to the shop and surrender the stolen item before the incident would be reported to the police.
The 43-year-old owner of the shop told Lianhe Zaobao that the stolen Labubu toy was an exclusive first-generation macaron, namely ‘Labubu Macaron V1’.
As the second generation is set to be launched soon, the production of these first-generation toys will likely be discontinued.
Each toy costs about S$20 but due to the limited local supply at present, the owner shared that the market value of the stolen toy is now over S$50.
He also told Lianhe Zaobao that he posted the CCTV footage online in hopes that the girl would return the item after seeing it.
“I think she is still young and should be given a chance to mend her ways. So, I still hope she can return the item as soon as possible and we won’t delve into it further,” he said.
He added that he is still considering whether to report the theft to the police.
MS News has reached out to the store owner for more comments.
